The Haudenosaunee Promise At
Syracuse University Project Advance®

Syracuse University is pleased to announce the extension of The Haudenosaunee Promise scholarship program to include SU’s Project Advance program. The Promise seeks to make the rich educational experiences and opportunities of Project Advance available to qualified Haudenosaunee American Indian high school students. The Promise expresses Syracuse University’s gratitude and appreciation for the historical, political, and cultural legacies of the Haudenosaunee and honors the continually growing relationship between us.

Benefits:

Qualified high schools students receive financial assistance of 80% to enroll in SU courses offered through Project Advance. Five spots will be held in SU courses offered through SUPAOnline for eligible students.

To be eligible for online courses a student must:

  • Be a high school student with senior standing, or a home-schooled student equivalent to the senior year of high school for online courses.
  • Be a home schooled student, student residing outside of New York State, or student attending high school on a Nation’s territory.
  • Be a certified citizen of one of the historic Haudenosaunee nations (Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, or Tuscarora).
  • Reside on one of the Haudenosaunee nation territories listed below for a minimum of three (3) years prior to and during enrollment in SU courses through Syracuse University Project Advance.
  • File for financial aid by published deadlines. You do not need to be a citizen of the United States or Canada to be eligible for the Promise.

  • Kanatsiohareke Mohawk
  • Ganienke Mohawk
  • Kahnawake Mohawk
  • Kanesatake Mohawk
  • Tyendinaga Mohawk
  • Tonawanda Seneca
  • Six Nations (Canada)
  • Oneida
  • Oneida of the Thames (Ontario)
  • Onondaga
  • Allegany Seneca
  • Cattaraugus Seneca
  • Oil Spring Seneca
  • Tuscarora

About Syracuse University Project Advance:

Syracuse University Project Advance is a partnership linking SU with secondary schools. Through this partnership, high schools offer qualified seniors the opportunity to enroll in Syracuse University courses for credit. Courses are offered in high school classrooms during the regular school day. They are taught by high school teachers who have completed graduate seminars in their subject areas and been named adjunct instructors at SU.

  • Project Advance serves a five-state area: New York, New Jersey, Maine, Michigan, and Massachusetts.
  • Over 7,000 students in 134 high schools annually enroll in SU courses through Project Advance.
  • More than 500 teachers are certified as adjunct Syracuse University instructors offering SU courses.
